Moving to Denmark

If you're relocating to Svendborg from abroad, you must report your move digitally using MitID, then visit Borgerservice in person.

Who must register?

You must register if you’ll be living in Denmark for more than six months and have a permanent residence, regardless of whether you're a Nordic citizen, from the EU/EEA, or from outside the EU/EEA.

If you are not a Nordic citizen, you also need a residence permit or be exempt from one-granted either by SIRI (for EU/EEA/Swiss citizens) or the Danish Immigration Service (Udlændingestyrelsen).

Required documents

You must bring the following when you visit Borgerservice:

  • Nordic citizens: Passport or national ID, proof of address (e.g., rental agreement), and possibly marriage or birth certificates.

  • EU/EEA citizens (and Switzerland): Passport or ID, EU residence permit from SIRI, proof of address, and relevant certificates, if applicable.

  • Non-EU citizens: Passport, Danish residence permit, proof of address, and any relevant certificates.
All documents must be in Danish, English, or German—or officially translated. Svendborg.dk
